What Is the Right Age to Learn Vedic Maths?

What Is the Right Age to Learn Vedic Maths?

Vedic Maths is an alternate science of learning Maths as compared to conventional school methods taught worldwide. Yes – that sounds interesting right? Let’s talk about it a little more and also try to understand “What is the right age to learn Vedic Maths”, which is one of the most common and initial questions that comes to everyone’s mind when they start on the interesting and enlightening journey to uncover secrets of Vedic Maths.

Before we answer this intriguing question, it’s important to understand the basic definition of Vedic Maths. In simple words, we can say that Vedic Maths is the traditional and fastest Mathematics Framework based on the Indian Vedas. It was developed by Sri Bharathi Krishna Tirthaj. ‘Vedic’ means relating to the Vedas, and ‘Vedas’ represents the sacred and religious texts that originated in ancient India. Vedas are composed in Vedic Sanskrit language.

It is also called Mental mathematics, the reason being it is a collection of different types of mathematical techniques and formulas to increase the calculation speed.

In terms of identifying the right age to learn Vedic Maths, it is important to understand that the preconditions for learning the Vedic Maths formulas or shortcut tricks is that the child or student must be aware of the underlying basic Maths concepts, so that he can actually understand and apply those concepts in the formulates; instead of just cramming the formulas. Hence the right age will be the age when a child actually learns these basic concepts (in the school).

Beginner level,

For the beginner level in Vedic Maths, these underlying concepts generally include basic arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Let’s consider the basic Vedic Math trick of ‘Multiply any two-digit number by 11’. Here is how we can do this calculation in a simple way (as compared to conventional method). Practice it yourself and you will be pleasantly surprised to find the improvement in speed using Vedic Maths method, since you simply can write the answer in first step itself (as compared to 3 steps in conventional method)Multiply Double Digit Number by 11

    Advance Level

For the advanced level in Vedic Maths, these underlying concepts generally include higher topics like cube roots, square roots, linear equations coordinate geometry etc. There is no limit to kind of topics that can be covered in Vedic Maths, it simply depends on how deep you want to dig in, and Vedic Maths will bring it to you. Let’s took at an example of how to find a cube root.

Example: How to find a cube root

Memorize Rule-1

Memories the cube root of first 10 Natural Numbers

Memorize Rule-2

Memorise the Lest Digit of Cube Roots

Steps (To find a cube root)

  1. Using a pipe separator “|” from the right, let us divide the number into two parts and call them Left Hand Side (L.H.S) and Right Hand Side (R.H.S)
  2. Apply Rule 1 for LHS to find the perfect cube of the nearest number (from the lower side), and then find its cube root
  3. Apply Rule 2 for R.H.S to find the last digit of the cube root.

Question – Find a cube root of 21952

Find a cube root of 21952

Interesting Fact – Do you know?

  • Vedic Maths is a tool that helps in brain development via mental mathematics. Hence it surely is quite good and enriching for all adults of any age group without any bar😊

Benefits of Vedic Maths

Benefits of Vedic Maths

  • Learning Math with Fun – The Vedic Maths tricks are taught in such a fun way that everyone just loves it. So it sounds like an interesting game instead of a boring Math course and brings excitement to an otherwise usually monotonous world of Maths. For e.g. the tricks to multiply any number with 11 or 9 series (9, 99, 999) creates the fun environment and kids love to use them in their school.
  • Save precious time in competitive exams, thus gaining edge over peers since you are not dependent on a calculator anymore, rather you become a human calculator yourself by practicing this art
  • Boosts confidence and sharpens the memory – Just imagine the confidence it will bring to you if you are able to calculate square roots, cube roots, multiplication results etc mentally (without a calculator) and at speed faster than conventional methods. This confidence will boost overall personality development of the child and immensely helps in all spheres of life.
  • Higher scores in exams – The child can use Vedic Maths formulas to cross check the answers in his exams and this will again help him in thorough revision before submitting the answers. Catching any mistakes early leads to higher scores.
  • Brain development – Develops your left and right sides of your brain hence using intuition and innovation. It has been noted that Geniuses have been using the right side of the brain to achieve exceptional results
  • Removes Math Phobia from children – Vedic Maths is a fun-filled way to learn Maths and remove fear of maths from children permanently. Instead, numbers become their best friends

Conclusion

  • Starting from a child aged 11 years minimum (6th grade usually), to a college student of 18, a housewife, or any adult of even 50+ years of age different people can gain multiple benefits from Vedic Maths.
  • Other than the minimum age of 11, there is really no bar on the higher age. We recommend a minimum of 11 years so that the child has a good hold on basic arithmetic concepts. This will allow him to learn the Vedic Maths formulas without getting confused. There is no benefit if a child of junior classes tries to learn Vedic Maths since he may actually get confused
  • On the higher age group, adults are usually interested to learn Vedic Maths to gain time advantage in professional or competitive exams, and even just for fun. The calculation speed usually increases anywhere between 5x to 10x if the same question is solved via Vedic maths, and this is a great benefit in exams like SAT, NTSC, JEE, Olympiad, etc., and similarly in some of the key exams after graduation like CAT, MAT, XAT, UPSC, NDA, GMAT, GRE

Our USP

Our USP

You may find numerous academies worldwide enrolling a child of even 5 years to learn Vedic Maths. Just imagine yourself that will a child really be able to learn any Vedic Maths trick or formula at such a young age; since every formula needs an understanding of basic arithmetic concepts (addition, multiplication, subtraction, division etc).

So please do not fall into the trap of pushing your young children to Vedic Maths (if they are younger than 10-11 years) instead focus on building their strong Math foundation and core concepts. We at Mathcruise ensures that your money and time is used judiciously and we always recommend the right course based on age, interest and need of the child after conducting a free evaluation class.
