What is Abacus

Whether you are planning to learn abacus online or go for offline classes, it’s of utmost importance that as a parent you understand what Abacus is and how is it useful.

  • Abacus in its simplest form is the world’s first & oldest calculator
  • It consists of a two-dimensional array of beads which is the most effective way to learn numbers
  • The most common use of the Abacus Training in the Maths learning system is ability to do all arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) even faster than the calculator, via Visualization technique using finger movement (without pen and paper)

Course Description

  • Abacus course is designed for mid to long-term duration and is divided into 9 levels. Every child (irrespective of age) starts from the first level since learning Abacus is similar to learning a new language.
  • A child uses the physical tool only in the first few months and gradually does all the arithmetic calculations by visualization using his finger movement whereby he forms the impression of tools and beads in his mind for every number or every calculation step.
  • If practiced consistently under professional guidance, gradually a child develops the ability to use even both hands simultaneously to do the finger movement and at such a fast pace that it seems unbelievable phenomenon to us unless we see this live

Why should Parents choose Abacus?

Now since we know the basics of Abacus, lets understand a little more that as a parent why you must choose Abacus classes for kids.

  • Modern studies have proved that the maximum brain development happens only until the age of 15 years. Hence its strongly recommended for a child to use Abacus at an early age starting 6 years.
  • To give your child the lifetime gift of self-confidence
  • To remove Maths Phobia from kids. Most parents are looking for effective ways of ‘How to overcome fear of Maths’. One of the key benefits of choosing Abacus for kids is that the kids will learn to do all arithmetic operations using visualization (without paper and pen) and this approach makes numbers your child’s best friends, thus removing fear of Maths.
  • The first tangible benefit visible to parents from naked eye is the huge improvement in accuracy and speed of arithmetic calculations since a child can do all calculations using visualization (without paper, pen, or calculator). So a child who has joined Abacus Maths classes has a definite edge over his peers since he will save precious time in exams by doing all calculations mentally.

Conclusion

  • Our point of view is that it does not really matter whether you join Abacus classes online or offline. Join as per your convenience, and at the academy of your choice. You will get amazing results under guidance of any good professional tutor.
  • While everyone would like to claim the credit for best Abacus classes, we equally give credit to the parents and child himself for effective results since any Abacus teacher cannot produce the results standalone.
  • At Mathcruise we provide fully online Abacus classes to global students, across multiple countries. Additionally, you can join our offline classes also if you are looking for Abacus classes in Delhi since our registered location is Delhi. But if you are specifically looking for Abacus coaching near to your place for e.g. Abacus classes in Pune then we would advise you to be flexible and make good trainer as a primary criterion, instead of the location (whether offline or online).

Can a Child learn both Abacus and Vedic Maths together?

• No doubt, both these courses are very good and have their own unique benefits. Often parents want their child to enroll and learn both these courses simultaneously, so that he can gain benefits from both and gain advantage over their peers in today’s competitive world. • In our point of view, there is no universal answer to this question that may apply to all students globally. It really depends on variety of factors such as does the child really has interest in learning both these courses? Does he has enough quality time that he can spend on these courses, after considering all the other necessary activities from his schedule like school work, play time, sleeping time, TV time, tuition classes for other subjects, and most importantly some time to just relax. • As we know that to get the effective results its important that a child must enjoy while studying any course and he should be able to get the quality time to do the required practice, whether it is Abacus or Vedic Maths or any other course like swimming or his school work or even his English classes. • Hence as long as the schedule allows any child to spend this quality time, yes absolutely both these courses can be done at the same time.

Whether any home practice is necessary for the children?

Yes, for most effective and consistent results we strongly recommend 10 min of daily practice by the child. At Mathcruise: We believe in going a little slow but ensuring that the concepts are well understood and practiced by the child, so that he is well familiar before proceeding to the next topic. This is also important to build the required confidence in the child.

Is Abacus easy to learn?

Yes, if taught by professionals and in the right way then Abacus is an easy to learn course with great results. Usually the initial results are visible to parents in 2-3 months time. Note that its easy as long as daily practice of 10 min is done consistently.

I am worried that my child may get confused in Abacus vs Regular School Maths?

It's a MYTH. Does a person who knows multiple-languages like English and French and Hindi ever get confused while communicating in each of these languages? We are sure you would agree the answer is NO. Similarly, Abacus is a different language to do Maths (Arithmetic operations mainly), and under the guidance of professional trainer he will never get confused. Infact Abacus supplements the regular /traditional Maths since the child can cross-check all his arithmetic operations mentally (without paper and pen) and is a great confidence booster, and also saves on time in exams thus getting an edge over his peers.
